AI Application Centre Schleswig-Holstein
The AI Application Centre sees itself as a central point of contact for artificial intelligence topics for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Schleswig-Holstein. It is part of the open network KI.SH, which is an integral part of the state's AI strategy to strengthen Schleswig-Holstein as a business location with a total project volume of approximately 17 million euros.
The AI Application Centre facilitates the transfer of technological know-how from science to industry. It is made up of more than 30 scientists from the following six universities: University of Lübeck, TH Lübeck, CAU Kiel, FH Kiel, FH Westküste and Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. The large number of participating universities and working groups brings together expertise from a wide range of fields such as mechanical engineering, communication systems, language modelling, data science and medical image processing.
Among other things, the AI Application Centre offers prototype development and feasibility studies for AI projects. These are carried out by an interdisciplinary team of scientists over a period of approximately 10 weeks. The work is free of charge and pre-competitive. This enables SMEs that do not have their own research department to benefit from the latest scientific findings. In addition to strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs, the visibility of Schleswig-Holstein's universities is increased and the use of AI is promoted, also with regard to topics such as the low-carbon economy, resilience and adaptation to climate change.

The Institute of Medical Informatics (IMI) extends the range of applications of the AI Application Centre to include the fields of medicine and deep learning-based image processing and can work on problems in these fields at a high scientific level and using the latest AI methods.
